The Vagina Monologues is more than a powerful and funny play, it is part of a global movement to raise awareness about and put an end to violence against women.
Written by Eve Ensler in 1997, the monologues, based on real ‘stories’, reflect a huge spectrum of experiences faced by women from every corner of the planet. The stories range from staggering and horrific, to tender, joyous and hilarious.
The Vagina Monologues has been performed thousands of times throughout the world, has been translated into over 25 languages and has raised millions of dollars for organizations that help end violence against women. This year, a portion of the proceeds will go to Coverdale Centre for Women in Saint John, N.B.
This will be the third time The Vagina Monologues has been staged at The Imperial Theatre – in 2002 and in 2004, shows were sold out and audiences leapt, instantaneously, to standing ovations. In 2002, it ranked 4th in The Imperial’s top ten events.
