Improv Workshop with Parsons & Morel on November 23
“They yanked the laughs right out of me guts and that is what I needs.” — Jerry Schaefer, Red Green Show (CBC Radio)
What is The Funny Ones? Think vaudeville revitalized. A mixture of sketches and music — like stand-up with songs — but way cooler, ‘cause Second City veterans Jenny Parsons and Steven Morel aren’t your typical comedy duo. They’re more like an on-stage comedy whirlwind — spinning around with hilarity for a wildly entertaining evening they’ve dubbed The Funny Ones. Based on their real-life relationship, The Funny Ones is about being a husband and wife duo, doing comedy for a living and the iconic comedians who have inspired them along the way, such as Lucy & Ricky, Burns & Allen, even Palin & Bush!
“Their performance is slick, hysterically funny and not to be missed. Parsons plays the washboard and the cheese grater. Morel plays the guitar and the ukulele. Together, they make your sides hurt from laughing. Enjoy!” —View Magazine (Hamilton, ON)
Created by the Ontario-based couple, The Funny Ones is a magical cocktail of hilariousness as Steven Morel — a.k.a. the suave star Vit Wagner — shows off his musical sophistication by serving up a musical concoction of famous singers singing other singers’ songs, while Jenny Parsons perfectly complements Morel’s shenanigans by stirring in her own magic tricks, comic quips and funny songs. Together they perform famous sketches, such as Abbott and Costello’s Who’s on First as the stars from Silence of the Lambs, sing covers from the novelty vaudevillian band The Hoosier Hotshots, pit a couple of country standards against each other to see which one is the saddest and perform a bunch of “you’ve never heard of this one” original songs too!
About Parsons & Morel
Jenny Parsons and Steven Morel met at The Second City where they created more than ten original, award-winning musical reviews. They have toured the world with their comedy from Hong Kong to the North West Territories and beyond. They have had extensive acting and writing careers separately but, nonetheless, are repeatedly cast together. One of their earliest jobs was being cast as the bumbling Mounties on the pilot of Due South. They did a number of commercials together over the years including playing un-cool parents for a Bell series, in which Steven even played his ukulele. Currently, you can find them on The Family Channel’s hit show Wingin’ It. Set in a high school, Morel plays the principal and Parsons is the drama teacher to a teen angel and his human friends. Steve plays Uke on this show too.
