Serena Ryder

Canada’s rising star takes to the stage with a fantastic concert titled An Intimate Evening With Serena Ryder. An exceptional songwriter with a powerful vocal range, Serena Ryder is known for pure, raw amazing talent and has earned leagues of loyal fans and the praise of critics in Canada, the United State and abroad.

With music lauded by fans and critics alike, Serena Ryder’s passion, humour, playfulness, anger and exultation shine through when she steps on any stage - from clubs to arenas, theatre settings and international festival stages - into a concert experience that will resonate long after the last notes fade.

Born and raised in the small town of Millbrook, ON, Serena Ryder cut her first indie recording at the age of 15. Two years later, she moved to the bustling artist community of Peterborough, ON where she honed her skills and played music with local bands, all the while working at a Cajun restaurant to make ends meet.  Within a year of leaving home she sang nationally on CBC Radio. Albums and national tours soon followed and Ryder’s success at home were bolstered by international tours to the United States, Australia and Europe where critics and music lovers were instantly smitten with the Canadian singer-songwriter.

She has since garnered rave reviews from national and international media, the Boston Globe noting her “impressive fearlessness,” No Depression magazine lauding her “pipes, presence [and] potential,” and American Songwriter observing that “Ryder brings a range and vocal maturity of someone twice her age.” Serena Ryder was invited to tour with Steve Earle and has performed on the same bill with acts as diverse as Aerosmith, Marc Broussard, Cheap Trick and Xavier Rudd, and has participated at a wide variety of music festivals such as Bonnarroo, Lollapalooza, South by Southwest (SxSW) and Denver’s Mile High Music Festival.

In her short, successful music career, Serena Ryder has recorded and released six albums, the most recent of which is it o.k., is garnering critical acclaim both in Canada and in the United States. The album If Your Memory Serves You Well, released in 2007, earned Ryder a 2008 Juno Award for Best New Artist and reached Gold status.

“Like listening to the teenaged Aretha Franklin, it’s impossible not to be physically shaken when Serena sings.” - Elle Magazine

“Ryder, to no one’s surprise, delivered a powerhouse one woman performance that had many in awe . . . With stellar vocal ability and enthusiastic fans singing to every one of her tunes . . .” - The Newfoundland Herald
