Sagapool
Thursday, April 19 - 7:30 p.m.

Event Sponsor: J.M. & C.W. Home Grant Ltd.

Sagapool

Cinematic is just one way to describe Sagapool’s music, but it’s so much more. With its contagious joie de vivre and sweeping melodies, the Montreal-based sextet’s music is like rainbows for the ears: happy, fun and a brilliantly colourful mix of gypsy music, klezmer, ska, latin and folk rhythms and featuring guitar, double-bass, accordion, percussion, banjo, glockenspiel, Rhodes, violin, clarinet and piano. Defying categorization, Sagapool has created a joyfully dazzling repertoire that reflects the flavours of Montreal’s cultural mosaic.

About Sagapool
Since 1999, Sagapool has played over 300 times in Canada, with four major performances at the Montreal International Jazz Festival, and sold more than 8,000 copies of its first two albums. In 2006, the album St-Urbain Café was nominated at ADISQ (Quebec Junos) for best instrumental album. That same year, the group won the Roseq-Radarts award given by music promoters of Quebec. In 2007, Sagapool performed for the first time in the United States at Bliss Fest, in Michigan.

Sagapool’s last album, Épisode Trois, was warmly received by the public and critics alike, and was named Album of the Week by the Montreal newspaper, Ici. The album also reached #1 on CIBL World chart for seven consecutive weeks, #6 on !Earshot Jazz chart and reached the Top 10 list of Montreal CD sales.
