Just for Laughs Comedy Tour '09
Sunday, October 25 - 7 p.m.

Just for Laughs Comedy Tour '09

Capital One and Just For Laughs have assembled some of our funniest alumni to form an All-Star edition of this year’s Capital One Just For Laughs Comedy Tour. Featuring a killer roster of talent from Scotland, the U.S., and Canada, this year’s tour is bigger and better than ever, hitting 20 cities across Canada beginning October 19 in St. John’s, NL and wrapping up November 15 in Kelowna, BC. Hot off the heels of his HBO Canada live comedy special, international touring star, Sugar Sammy will host the tour with two very special guests: back by popular demand, Scottish sensation, Danny Bhoy will be rejoining the tour. The show also features past Festival knockout, Pete Correale, the hit of the 2009 Montreal Festival, Godfrey and host of CBC’s The Debaters, Steve Patterson.

Tickets: $41.50

Host: Sugar Sammy (Canada)
Dubbed “Comedy’s New Rock Star” by Askmen.com, Montreal’s own Sugar Sammy is a young comedian rocketing towards international fame. He’s broken attendance records worldwide, aided in no small part by his ability to perform in four languages (English, French, Punjabi and Hindi). While we’re talking about records, he’s the first ever Just For Laughs alum to have performed at the Montreal English and French editions as well as the Toronto edition of the Festival. Aside from recently wrapping up a cross-Canadian tour, he’s performed in over a dozen countries including Germany, Lebanon, Hong Kong, and the Caribbean, and has played festivals in Sydney, Cape Town and Johannesburg. He also recorded a special for Showtime called Minorities Rule which aired in fourteen countries in the Middle East. He’s worked with George Lopez, Damon Wayans and opened for Dave Chappelle, a personal career highlight. With his new HBO Canada special released in June, more and more people are enjoying their Sugar fix. Accept no substitutes.

Special Guest: Danny Bhoy (Scotland)
Due to popular demand, Scotland’s Danny Bhoy is making his second appearance on the Capital One Just For Laughs Comedy Tour. He has spent the last few years shattering box office records worldwide as one of the top international acts working today. His numerous festival appearances include Montreal’s Just For Laughs in 2005, where The Gazette named him “the standout hit of the Festival” and his gala set got him nominated for a Gemini Award for “Best Individual Comedy Performance.” He returned two years later to sell out the Gesù Theatre during a ten-night solo run. In 2008, Danny started his major tour of the UK and a return to the Edinburgh Festival for his 8th solo show. This past summer was a Just For Laughs hat trick for Danny: he performed at the inaugural edition of TBS presents a Very Funny Festival: Just For Laughs in Chicago, had a phenomenal sold-out run at Just For Laughs Toronto, and killed at the Montreal Festival where he taped his first Comedy Central one-hour special, to be released in 2010.

Pete Correale (U.S.A.)
Recently named one of Entertainment Weekly’s Top Ten Comics To Watch, Pete Correale follows a simple comedic mantra: “If it happened to me, it happened to someone else.” His hilarious and relatable slice-of-life observations have killed on Late Night with David Letterman, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and his Comedy Central special, The Things We Do For Love. His festival appearances include Just For Laughs, where he was a huge hit in 2008, Aspen’s HBO Comedy Arts Festival, Ireland’s Kilkenny Cat Laughs Festival and the first-ever Beirut Stand-Up Comedy Festival in Lebanon. Pete’s written for shows on MTV and Comedy Central and acted in films such as The Gynecologists, American Dummy, and a pilot with Saturday Night Live alumnus Jim Breuer (with whom he also co-hosted the Sirius satellite radio show Breuer Unleashed). Entertaining Iraq-war troops and numerous charities, spreading laughter is clearly something Pete Correale does for love, and fans love him right back.

Godfrey (U.S.A.)
Though his parents wanted him to become a doctor, Godfrey’s destiny was giving stitches of a different sort. Starting as a class clown and later, a skilled mimic of his college football teammates, Godfrey steered his desire to entertain towards acting. He appeared in numerous commercials and got his biggest exposure on a successful 7-Up campaign. A recognizable “funny” face by then, he hit stages in New York venues like Caroline’s Comedy Club and The Comic Strip and soon became signed talent. Besides headlining clubs in LA and New York, he’s appeared in films like Original Gangsters, Chain Reaction and Soul Plane with Snoop Dog. Recent accomplishments include appearances at all three Just For Laughs Festivals this year (Montreal, where he garnered a ton of buzz, Toronto and Chicago), his fourth appearance on BET’s Comicview, his own half-hour special on Comedy Central, and a guest-starring role on 30 Rock. Medicine’s loss has proven comedy’s gain thanks to funny-bone specialist, Godfrey.

Steve Patterson (Canada)
When Steve Patterson left advertising to pursue a full-time career in comedy in 1996, his parents debated his career choice. When he moved from Toronto to Montreal in the midst of his successful full-time comedy career in 2005, his fellow comics debated his chances at ongoing success. When he turned down NBC’s Last Comic Standing in 2007 to keep a Canadian comedy commitment, American network executives debated his sanity. So it’s only natural that this international headliner, Canadian comedy veteran and proud Montrealer now hosts The Debaters, guiding top comedic minds through seemingly un-debatable topics weekly on CBC Radio One. Steve has twice been nominated for a Canadian Comedy Award for “Best Male Stand-Up Comic” and this summer marked his 6th Just For Laughs Festival appearance in Montreal.
