The 2011 Capital One Just For Laughs Comedy Tour
Announces First-Ever British Edition Line-up and Tour Dates
October 24 to November 20
Host Steve Patterson Introduces His Very Funny British Friends!
Toronto, September 7, 2011-The British Invasion continues! The Capital One Just
For Laughs Comedy Tour announces its first-ever British Edition with a sidesplitting
line-up of comics from across the pond, introduced by Canadian comedy
star Steve Patterson, who acts as host of the tour. The 11th edition of the tour
kicks-off October 24 in St. John’s, Newfoundland, entertaining comedy fans across
the country until November 20, ending in Victoria, British Columbia.
“Some of comedy’s best talent comes from the United Kingdom. Therefore, we have
put together a line up featuring some of the hottest acts from the UK scene who will
be introduced by one of Canada’s funniest comedians, Steve Patterson,” said
Christine Melko Ross, VP of Operations.
Host Steve Patterson, the current host of CBC Radio One’s wildly successful The
Debaters, as well as the TV version airing now on CBC, has performed in three of
the Just For Laughs’ prestigious televised galas, including one hosted by Steve
Martin at last year’s Festival. In addition to playing every major city in Canada,
Steve has also headlined in Ireland, Australia, the United States, the United
Kingdom and the United Arab Emirates leaving audiences everywhere united in
their praise.
“We continue to support this tour because of Just For Laughs unprecedented ability
to bring top comedic talent to theatres right across the country. This year is no
exception, and we look forward to introducing new and unique ways to engage with
Canadian audiences,” said Clinton Braganza, Vice President, Brand Marketing for
Capital One Canada.
Opening act Abandoman, with frontman Rob Broderick, will be warming up the
audience by creating hilarious musical numbers at lightning speed, basing each of
their songs on audience suggestions so no two performances are ever the same.
The tour also features Matt Kirshen, who was a finalist on NBC’s Last Comic
Standing, has appeared on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, Paul
Provenza’s Green Room, and recorded half-hour specials for The World Stands Up
and Comedy Central; critically acclaimed and award-winning performer Stephen K.
Amos (appearing on tour from November 8 to the 20), who last year hosted The
People’s Music Awards in London and had his own self-titled television series Stephen K. Amos Show on BBC2; accomplished writer, actor and one of the top comedians working in the UK today as well as 2008 tour favorite Hal Cruttenden (appearing on tour from October 24 to November 5); Perrier Award-nominated Terry Alderton, who has a long list of impressive film and television credits under his belt, including BBC One’s Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Road Show; and Sean Meo, a former full-time snooker player, who has performed all over the world -including four appearances at the Montreal Just For Laughs Festival - and most recently in Cyprus and Afghanistan and who was widely featured in BBC Radio 5 Live’s “Christmas Up The Front.”
